Place: Mokelumne Hill Town Hall (Main Street)
Time: 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Topic: Jep Peckler's Retirement Party-- 31 years with Calaveras Unified, 1.7 at Corcoran High School, 0.3 in Lake County as a roving and long-term sub, and 2.0 on Falalop Ulithi Elementary School, Western Caroline Islands.
Structure: Open house style party at the Town Hall. Part luau, part Quaker meeting, part beer and wine tasting, part Moke Hill pot luck, part story telling festival, part culinary adventure. We'll provide a foundation for 'small plates' and refreshments-- some beers and wine, iced-tea and lemonade, bread and cheese, barrel chicken and potato salad.
Guests, please bring something to eat and something to drink that you're willing to share-- (side-dish, appetizer, six-pack, bottle of wine, bag of chips, growler, mason jar of pickles, tappanade and crustini, box of candy, etc.) as your personal inclinations and epicurean interests move you.
This will be a remembering, reflecting, informal, meandering, storytelling, sampling, tasting, eating, drinking, not overly-organized but not quite anarchy either kind of party. A microphone and PA will be available for anyone wanting to go public with their comments. Otherwise the sound system will be used for background music.
Theme: Our hope for the future is that the dominant 'me-first/corporate-dominated/money-driven' world view can be infused with a bit more island spirit; and with that spirit we hope for a growing sense of interdependence in our shared community and a greater realization of the critical importance of our shared commitment to the well being of all. Whether you're a suit or a slacker, a rigging hand or a navigator-- we're in the boat together.
We know this is a socially crowded time of year, but we hope you can join us for the celebration-- even if you can only manage a 'touch and go landing.'
