Hardluck Lin visited Moke Hill last week and the old timer still has a lot to say!

Last Thursday at Jeff Tuttle’s Union House the Calaveras County Historical Society members had the wonderful experience of meeting Hardluck Lin and hearing her talk about the women of the gold rush. Her stories about Lola Montez, Charlie Parkhurst , and the “fallen angels” wrung our hearts and made us laugh out loud. Some things sounded like tall tales, but in fact, it’s a matter of truth being stranger than fiction. You may think you already know the old stories, but Hardluck has the real nitty gritty from cradle to grave.

Being with Hardluck is like sitting with the ancestors. Our next opportunity to hear Hardluck spin tales of the Mother Lode is Saturday, July 9th in the Ironhorse Amphitheater at the Glory Hole Recreation Area of Angels Camp. You can find out more about Hardluck and the book she wrote on “arrival survival” during California’s gold rush at www.hardlucklin.com.
