UPDATE – FOURTH SITE ADDED TO 2008 MOKELUMNE RIVER CLEANUP
“There’s nothing like spending a beautiful fall
day along the Mokelumne with your family and
friends,” said retired teacher Karen Friis,
coordinator of the 2008 Mokelumne River Cleanup.
“Taking part in the Mokelumne River Cleanup is a
great way to have fun while doing something good for our local river.”
On Saturday, October 25, people who care about
the Mokelumne River will gather at four sites for
the 2008 Mokelumne River Cleanup. They will work
along the river’s banks removing trash
accumulated through the summer months. Previous
cleanups have cumulatively removed tons of trash
and recyclables over the last 18 years. The
cleanup benefits wildlife and water quality while
keeping the river a beautiful place to visit.
Participants should register in advance at
www.foothillconservancy.org/rivercleanup or by
calling Randy Berg at 209-295-4900.
The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. in three
locations: the beach parking lot on Electra Road,
the Bureau of Land Management parking area along
the North Fork Mokelumne at Highway 26 (Red
Corral Road), the Middle Bar takeout parking lot
on Middle Bar Road, and the Mokelumne River
Campground below Salt Springs Dam. Coffee, juice,
and breakfast snacks will be available. The
cleanup will be canceled in case of rain.
This year’s Mokelumne River Cleanup sponsors are
the Foothill Conservancy, New York Fitness, and
the East Bay Municipal Utility District, with
assistance from the U.S. Forest Service.
Contributing businesses and groups to the 2008
Mokelumne River Cleanup include ACES, Munnerlyn’s
Ice Creamery, Mother Lode Market, Sanghera’s
Market, Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium and the
Amador High School Home Economics Department.
Volunteers should wear long pants and sturdy
boots and bring along work gloves, a hat, insect
repellent, sunscreen, a water bottle and a bag
lunch. Water and snacks will be provided.

welcome to help from the river. No pets or alcoholic beverages, please.

accompanied by responsible adults. Minors must
have their liability releases signed by a parent
or legal guardian. Copies of the release can be
downloaded from the Foothill Conservancy website
or obtained from the Conservancy office.
Groups are welcome -please call in advance for information.
All participants will receive a small gift of
thanks for their effort. There will be a special
