The Red Brick schoolhouse was built in 1859 with funds from a dance. The schoolhouse has been restored to its original appearance and is open to visitors daily.

Stage 3 Theatre Company was founded in 1993 to find, develop and produce new and contemporary works by established and upcoming playwrights. Stage 3 is proud of the critically acclaimed body of work it has been able to present in our region, and of the voice they have been able to give to new theatre artists from around the country. They call themselves "the adventurous theatre company" and we remain committed to bringing the best in contemporary theatre to a growing audience of adventurous theatre patrons.

Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in the historic goldrush town of Murphys, in Calaveras County, California, MCT is dedicated to bringing the highest quality theatrical events to California's Mother Lode region, featuring the acclaimed "Theatre Under the Stars" outdoor summer theatre festival at the Cornelia B. Stevenot Performing Arts Center at Stevenot Winery, in Murphys.

We’ve been around since 1964 performing in the beginning in the Native Sons of the Golden West Hall on Main St. in Murphys, Ca. In 1984 there was enough community support to build our present facility located at 580 S. Algiers St., Murphys. We provide quality productions that are exciting, thought provoking and innovative, as well as, entertaining and fun for the whole family. We excel at farce, comedy and melodrama and have added “The Black Bart Improvisors” troop to our venue. The theater is also available to various community groups as well.
